Ornamental metal fabrication was a two-year program offered in the eleventh and twelfth grades in the Pittsburgh public school system. Students gained valuable skills necessary for decorative and functional metal work. Graduating students developed a variety of skills including the ability to read and interpret welding symbols, sketches, and working drawings; knowledge in the proper selection and identification of metals and material that met specific job requirements; ability to fabricate architectural art; skills in forging and heat treating for ornamental metalwork; and knowledge in both oxyacetylene and electric arc welding.
