Description
During the 1950s over a million books for reference and recreational purposes were circulated among Pittsburgh public school students. In addition, library clubs were formed at city schools during this period in which many students were actively involved. Westinghouse High School, located at 1101 North Murtland Avenue, was named in honor of the noted inventor and industrialist, George Westinghouse, whose home was in the vicinity of the school. The school, designed by architects Ingham and Boyd, was completed in 1924. Some of the programs and services offered at the school include the Science and Math Academy, the Business and Finance Academy, the Computer Literacy Program, the Career and Vocational Guidance, the Earth Watch Education Program, and Operation Better Block. Westinghouse High School serves the Pittsburgh communities of East Liberty and Homewood-Brushton.
