Description
Prospect Elementary and Junior High School, located at Prospect and Cowan Streets in Pittsburgh’s Mount Washington neighborhood, took its name due to its location that afforded extensive panoramic views of the City of Pittsburgh. The original school building was constructed in 1871, and was destroyed by a fire in 1914. In 1938 a new building, designed by the architectural firm of James T. Steen & Sons, was constructed. The school serves the Allentown, Beltzhoover, Hill District, Mount Washington, and South Side communities of Pittsburgh.
