Description
Refugees from the Pittsburgh Flood of 1936 at a shelter on 1315 Liverpool Street in Pittsburgh’s Manchester neighborhood. The 1936 flood spread rapidly through Pittsburgh and other Western Pennsylvania river communities. The floodwaters continued to rise until approximately 6 a.m. on March 19. The waters peaked at 46 feet. Thirty-six people were killed and another 500 were injured. The financial damages incurred after the flood were estimated between $150 million and $200 million.
