  • This is a front view of what is commonly referred to as Burke's Building. This structure still stands on Third Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh, Allegheny County. Erected about 1836, the structure survived the city's 1845 fire due to its materials and construction. This photograph is found on p. 273 of Stotz's 1936 book entitled Early Architecture of Western Pennsylvania (image A1-3a).
