The building could fit 2,200 students within all its classrooms. University alumni raised all funds necessary to complete the building. It would eventually become the home of the Surface Science Research Center, and then be renamed Eberly Hall. The Alumni organization would eventually find a home in the former Masonic Temple on Fifth Avenue. Thaw Hall is home to the Department of Physics and Astronomy as well as having classrooms and labs for Chemistry, Archaeology, and Architectural Studies.
