Description
A scenic view of the Carrie Furnaces from the southern bank of the Monongahela river with a steamboat pushing barges downriver. The Carrie Furnaces were acquired by Andrew Carnegie in 1900 and originally consisted of two blast furnaces. The furnaces were placed under the control of the Homestead District Works in 1901. Additional furnaces were built and the whole complex remained in service until 1984. Furnaces #6 an #7 are still standing.
