Description
Exterior Shot of Carrie Furnace with a View of Rankin on the Hillside. Carrie Furnace Spanned 35 Acres throughout the Boroughs of Rankin and Swissvale. It Was Founded February 29, 1884 and Supplied Pig Iron Via the Hot Metal Bridge over the Monongahela River to the Homestead Steel Works. The Blast Furnaces Were 100 Feet High, with a 23 Foot Bosh and 15 Foot Hearth with an Annual Capacity of 672,000 Tons. The Furnaces Closed in 1978.
