Description
View looking southwest toward Mount Washington of workers removing mud and debris left in the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad yards during the 1936 St. Patrick's Day flood. The Station and Central Warehouse can be seen in the background on the right, with the Monongahela Incline on the left. The flood occurred over a period of four days after heavy rains, culminating with the crest of the Ohio River at 46 feet. The 1936 flood had far reaching effects, causing some $250 million in damages and an estimated 108 fatalities.
