Description
Benjamin L. B. discusses growing up in Summerton, South Carolina, and working on his parents' farm instead of finishing school. Both Black and white farmers leaving the South and migrating North to take factory or mill jobs. His landing in Pittsburgh, boarding in Homestead, and finding work at a sawmill as part of a labor gang. Having trouble holding down work during the Great Depression, but eventually rejoining the mill.
