Monongahela River Wharf improvement looking east to the Smithfield Street Bridge showing the concrete pour near Market Street. This is the future home to what is known as Mon Wharf parking. A longtime commercial area in combination with Water Street which ran immediately above, the area was the landing point for commerce and trade. Water Street, which ran above the slopes of the wharf, was originally home to warehouses and office buildings. Once automobiles became popular, it also served as a parking area. Most of the wharf became submerged once the Ohio River dam was built
