Description
Monongahela River Wharf improvement looking east from station 27+0 to the Smithfield Street Bridge showing progress on the sub-base and forms of the north 14 foot lane. This is the future home to what is known as Mon Wharf parking. A longtime commercial area in combination with Water Street which ran immediately above, the area was the landing point for commerce and trade. Once automobiles became popular, it also served as a parking area. Most of the wharf became submerged once the Ohio River dam was built.
