  • Beginning in 1895, the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh hosted an annual Founder's Day Program, often featuring political, scientific, and educational leaders from around the world. The October 13, 1927 Founder's Day coincided with the opening of the "International Exhibition of Paintings" (now called the Carnegie International) with U.S. President Calvin Coolidge was the featured speaker. Mellon (49th U.S. Secretary of the Treasury); Richard B. Mellon (banker and philanthropist, brother of Andrew W. Mellon); Samuel Harden Church (President of the Carnegie Institute); and Charles H.
