Description
View of the Baxter Elementary School playground. Built in 1910, the building was used originally as the Westinghouse High School until 1922, then as the Baxter Elementary school until 1928. From 1928 until 1955 the still operated as the Baxter Junior High School, when in 1955 the building was renovated and once again became the Baxter Elementary School until 1978 when it was closed. The following year in 1979 Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts School (CAPA) opened in the former elementary school, serving children grades 6-12. In 2003 CAPA moved to its current location downtown at 111 9th Street. The school is now the Pittsburgh Student Achievement Center since 2004, teaching children in grades 6-12.
