Description
An image of Gulf's Research Laboratory. The caption reads: "In the left foreground are two corrosion fatigue machines operating under sulfide conditions. The fluid used for the purpose is well water saturated with both natural gas and hydrogen sulfide. Ordinary steels under these conditions can withstand only about one-fifth the unit stress of non-corrosive service. In the center background is the apparatus used to determine the effects of internal stress on the rate of corrosion of various steels. At the center of the bench is the testing machine constructed to determine the embrittling effect of hydrogen sulfide on cable tool drilling lines."
