Description
Employee examining glass ribbon as it emerges from a tank in the plate glass manufacturing process of Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. The glass ribbon depicted in this image is formed when molten glass is pressed through a set of rolls as it leaves the tank. Once formed, the ribbon is then conveyed to the annealing lehr where it gradually cools. After emerging from the cooling section, the glass is inspected, cut down to smaller sizes before it is ground and polished. After the optics of the glass are increased through grinding and polishing, the glass is inspected and cut down to smaller sizes once again before being sent to a PPG or clients.
