Description
Front end of a glass furnace at an unidentified Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company plant, most likely equipped with a sheet line. Depicted are three large bins or hoppers in the lower left corner of the image that contain the raw materials drawn from the batch house needed to manufacture glass. Situated behind the three hoppers are brick structures, which are known as regenerators. Regenerators facilitate reuse of the heat coming from the exhaust of the furnace by reversing the air flow of the furnace exhaust reversed by flushing the heat from the bricks back into the furnace.
