Description
The Old Stage Coach House was on Old Washington Road and was demolished when Route 19 was expanded to four lanes. The house was built by John Gilfillan [1784-1859] on his property for the workers on his farm. It was then used as a part of the stage coach line until it stopped running in 1835. In later years, Jack Klancher, Upper St. Clair's first police chief, lived in the house and used the basement as a temporary holding cell until they could be removed to the jail in Pittsburgh.
