Description
Photo shows the William S. McKinney family with horses in front of the McKinney Barn in Town of McCandless, Allegheny County, PA. This barn still stands on McKinney Road near Pearce Mill Road and the golf course in North Park, Allegheny County Park, Allegheny County, PA. Shown standing on the left is Annie (Neely) McKinney born in 1858, died in 1917. She is seen wearing a long skirt and dark print long-sleeved blouse. Shown left to right beside Annie are William S. McKinney Sr. (1855-1921), Raymond Wesley McKinney (1886-1970) - standing on a wagon, William S. McKinney Jr. (1878-1955), Joseph Walter McKinney (1880-1937) and Charles Edward McKinney (1882-1942). The last boy on the right is an unidentified neighbor. The men and boys are wearing dark colored work clothes and hats. The boys are shown holding the reins of four horses. Wagons and wagon wheels are also seen. Several chickens are seen on the muddy dirt road. The wooden barn and main doors are shown. The original farm was divided up amongst the children and parts eventually sold to Allegheny County for North Park. The twelfth hole of the North Park Golf Course was once a part of the McKinney Farm. The original farm house sat around the bend up above the barn to the left of this photo. It burned down shortly after Allegheny County acquired the property for North Park.
