Description
Early 1950s aerial view of the Point, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA. Photo depicts Mayor David Lawrence's first redevelopment of Pittsburgh. Photo shows the Fort Pitt Bridge (lower center section of photo) and the uncompleted Fort Duquesne Bridge (upper center section of photo). Also shown are the Point Bridge (left of the Fort Pitt Bridge) and the first arch of the Manchester Bridge just above the Point Bridge. The Point has been cleared (except for the Fort Pitt Blockhouse) in preparation for Point State Park. Train cars are seen on the tracks on the South Side shore in the bottom of the photo along with the entrance to the Fort Pitt Tunnel. Barges are seen on the Allegheny River beyond the Fort Duquesne Bridge. Some of the buildings of the North Side are seen as well as some downtown.
