Description
Shown are the ruins of Carl and Elizabeth Van der Voort's home following a fire in January of 1922 in Franklin Township (Franklin Park Borough), Allegheny County, PA. This was the third residential fire within a few months that led to the formation of the Ingomar #1 Volunteer Fire Company (Franklin Park Volunteer Fire Company) in 1922. With no pressure regulator on the gas line coming into the house, pressure built during the night when the lights were turned off, causing a fire. Robert Van Der Voort, who later served as a Pennsylvania Superior Court judge, was twelve years old when he and his family escaped the flames of their burning home. Located on Wilvan Lane. In the background is seen an oil derrick that was on the property.
