Description
McAfee's Convict Inn was a jail themed tavern, restaurant and inn located on Perry Highway (Route 19) in the Wexford section of Pine Township, Allegheny County, PA that featured an animated chain gang attached to the roof peak and restaruant booths built into cells. Photo shows the two story building, brick on the first story and clapboard construction with gables on the second story. The "McAfee's Convict Inn" sign can be seen above a side entrance. It opened in 1946 and at different times was known as the Starlite Lounge, Wexford House and Brendan's before being destroyed by fire in 1990. In the early years, a driving range and archery range were also offered. Movies were shown on a bed sheet nailed to a tree. This led to the 1949 opening of the Wexford Starlite Drive-In Theater which closed in 1989. Northway Christian Church currently occupies the property on which the inn and drive-in stood.
