Description
Don't be fooled by the name of this band: there are more instruments than just cornets to be found within it. Baritones, tubas, trombones, a snare drum, a bass drum, a piccolo and either a clarinet or oboe round out the band. The band stands in front of the Central Hotel, which had been located in Verona on West Railroad Avenue. The conductor's uniform differs from the rest of the band; his uniform reverses the color usage on the other uniforms, has a longer top and comes with a tall, fancy, furry hat. Judging from most of the members, moustaches were quite popular at the time. Another interesting thing to notice in this photograph of the band is the man's head to the left of the conductor's legs. This also draws attention to the fact that a few of these men are standing on a board over what must be a fairly deep hole. Originally from the collection of Edith McCafferty.
