  • Postcard image of the Elizabeth A. Bradley Children's Home. The Bradley Home was an orphanage serving Methodist children from broken homes that operated in Oakmont from 1905 to 1975, when it was closed to make room for Riverview High School. The home, built in 1864 , was the home of riverboat Captain Dalzell, who had built the house by the river so his wife could see him coming home. Elizabeth A. Bradley bought the house from Dalzell in 1903, and the Bradley Home was opened in 1905. The orphanage was operated by the Methodist Episcopal Church, specifically the Methodist Woman's Home Missionary Society of Pittsburgh. Much consternation was caused in the community by the proposed demolition of the home in 1975, but after much debate Riverview High School was built on the site at the foot of Hulton Road.
