  • Photo shows partially snow-covered Thorn Hill School property at Cottage Number 6. Image shows the water tower, pump house and a shed in the distance on the right. The Thorn Hill School was established in 1910 and closed in 1979. Over the years it was known by serveral names including: Allegheny County Industrial and Training School for Boys, Thorn Hill School of Allegheny County, Warrendale Youth Development Center (1962), Warrendale Correctional Center. The school was created as a training center for boys under the age of 16 who were sent over from Allegheny County Juvenile Court.
