  • Photo shows partially snow-covered Thorn Hill School property including a barn and outbuildings at Cottage Number 6 on the south side. A tub is seen to the right of the barn. A cow and a person are seen at the barn doorway. The Thorn Hill School was established in 1910 and closed in 1979. Over the years it was known by serveral names including: Allegheny County Industrial and Training School for Boys, Thorn Hill School of Allegheny County, Warrendale Youth Development Center (1962), Warrendale Correctional Center. The school was created as a training center for boys under the age of 16 who were sent over from Allegheny County Juvenile Court.
