Description
Beehive coke ovens located at the Phillips Mine & Coke Works, originally owned by H. C. Frick Coke Company. These ovens would be loaded with fine coal and burned, to rid the coal of impurities. These were the last operating beehive coke ovens in the U.S. before they were shut down in 1972. They are located in Shoaf, Pennsylvania, just outside Uniontown in Fayette County.
