  • This aerial view of Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood begins over Pitt Stadium and slowly pans to the southeast over the University of Pittsburgh's campus. As the film progresses, the camera reveals UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, the Litchfield Towers dormitories, the Cathedral of Learning, and Hillman Library, before ending at Forbes Field. Next to Hillman Library, the construction of David Lawrence Hall can be seen. Constructed in 1909, Forbes Field was one of the first stadiums to be built out of steel and concrete. The park not only hosted the Pittsburgh Pirates but also, at various times, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Negro League team the Homestead Grays. With its campus expanding, the University of Pittsburgh bought Forbes Field in 1958, leasing the park to the Pirates until a new stadium could be built. The Pirates played their final game at Forbes Field on June 28, 1970. Home plate and a portion of the outfield wall have been preserved in their original locations on the University of Pittsburgh campus.
